Demand a Seat

Together, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action
make up the largest grassroots advocacy and volunteer networks in the country with highly engaged volunteers that have successfully changed the political calculus on gun safety.

Across the country, more than 250 volunteers have been elected to school boards, city councils, state legislatures and even Congress.

During the 2023-24 campaign cycle, more than 500 volunteers have run for office, continuing to grow a powerful pipeline of gun safety candidates who will drive change.

Since the launch of Demand a Seat in 2021, we have trained more than 1,000 Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers and gun violence survivors on how to build and run winning campaigns.

Demand a Seat is continuing to build a pipeline of gun safety candidates by providing opportunities for mentorship, networking, and high quality educational training to encourage even more Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action grassroots volunteers and gun violence survivors to run for office up and down the ballot.

Testimonials

What Our Participants Say

“I think the biggest reason people should participate in Demand a Seat is because not only is it teaching you how to run for office, it is teaching you how to run for office with a purpose.”

Hunter Cain Las Vegas, NV

“Take their seat. I am being honest. If you’re fed up and nothing is happening and it’s like your voice is voiceless, then take pen to paper, run, get out there in your community, and educate your community.”

Niadu Allen Florida

“It’s a great opportunity to be in a supportive environment where people have experience, they know the issues, and they know how to be successful…sometimes you really have to learn how to strategically persuade people to do something to help our communities and children be safer.”

Lena Nirk Gilford, NH

“For me, the greatest gift I got from Demand a Seat were things that I had learned as a volunteer: we are not alone, we are strongest when we fight together, and most importantly, that my voice mattered and I could make a difference.”

Mia Livas Porter Los Angeles, CA
